Excessive heat and increased fire danger remain a major threat coming into the start of the new work week with most of the action focused on southern and central Utah. With temperatures expected to climb near and above 110° for the St. George, Zion National Park, and the Glen Canyon/Lake Powell areas, Excessive Heat Warnings have been put in place until 8pm this evening (see images below). Unfortunately, not a lot of overnight cooling is expected but enough to allow for heat warnings to expire. If you have plans to be outdoors today it's imperative you remember to stay hydrated and limit your time directly under the sun. Wearing loose fitting clothing will also help beat the heat, but it's best to stay indoors if you can! To go along with the various heat warnings and advisories, a Red Flag Warning has been issued for the majority of the state (see images below). This means weather conditions will remain ideal for the rapid spread of wildfires. Gusty winds and dry conditions will be sticking with us through Tuesday.
Moving further to the north, temperatures are expected to top off in the low to mid 90s today with sunny conditions holding strong. Clear skies tonight will allow for temperatures to fall back into the middle 60s. The week ahead shows little signs of rainfall relief but plenty more sunshine. Temps will be sticking near the norm (lower 90s) until Thursday when they begin to rise near 100° once again coming into the weekend.
