The heat is on! Across the entire state, above normal temperatures will be returning for our Friday as a warming trend heads our way. Temps will be running around 5-10 degrees above daily norms with the Saint George area looking at temps in the 100s, Salt Lake City right near the 100° mark, and higher elevations sticking to the upper 80s (see image below). Not much change is expected in the way of temps coming into the weekend as Saturday looks to remain very toasty. Some northern areas will see a decrease in temps for Saturday, but not by much. Despite being a bit above the average the relentless dryness and heat is pretty typical for July, so the summer continues to rage on.
Similarly to previous days, there is a risk for some convection over higher-altitude regions. Clouds will build across the Wasatch Mountains and eastward, bringing another threat for some high-based showers and storms. Once again, chances remain very slim and if anything does successfully pop, there won't be much rain accompanying the gusty conditions and a few strikes of lightning. Northwest Utah also faces the potential for some isolated storm activity, but also won't be seeing much rainfall - watch out for lightning if clouds do begin to build.
