Red Flag Warnings have returned as temperatures begin an upward trend this Thursday. Temperatures around the St. George area will pop into the 100s with the northern part of the state seeing low to mid 90s (see image below). Red Flag Warnings, which go into effect at noon today, can be found around the central and southern Utah mountains where conditions will be ideal for quick wildfire spread (dry and breezy) (see image below). Moisture, not a ton of it, will eventually begin moving into southern Utah thanks to a low pressure system centered over SoCal sending some energy our way. At the very most, some high-based showers and isolated storms will develop as a result but don't expect much when it comes to needed rainfall. Gusty winds from general outflow remain a concern.
While the low spins over California, high pressure will slowly be building back through the weekend. This will allow temps to trend warmer for Friday, continuing through Sunday. Higher altitude regions will keep some lingering moisture which will continue to bring a slight threat for somewhat dry and gusty storms. This activity will eventually drift into the eastern valleys Friday and Saturday.
Generally dry and warm conditions look to persist through the weekend however I'm keeping a eye on the possibility for some changes into the next work week. Some models have indicated that southern flow will remain, allowing for some monsoonal moisture to move into the region. Something to watch, for sure, but don't get too excited. Conflicting models show the possibility for this moisture to head more eastward and away from the area. Stay tuned!
