The Utah region remains under southerly flow this Thursday morning as a storm system begins to move onshore to the west. This has resulted in a plume of monsoonal moisture moving into the southwest region of the country. However, western Utah will be remaining quite dry prompting another round of ideal fire weather conditions near the Utah/Nevada border this afternoon. Southern Utah could see a few isolated showers this morning but the real activity begins to flare up coming into the afternoon - this will bring another threat for storm activity starting over higher altitude regions before moving into surrounding valleys. The storms that do develop will have a good chance to bring heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding. The greatest threat rests in southeastern Utah where more abundant moisture can be found.
Although chances for additional storm development linger into Friday afternoon, drier air is expected to push in from the west. This drier air will keep the main threat for heavier showers and potential flash flooding to the southeast portion of the state. Further drying is anticipated for Saturday, which will begin to limit storm activity over the southeast. Little change is expected when it comes to temperatures for the first half of the weekend. Daily highs will be running near or just below seasonal norms.
