Some Red Flag Warnings have been allowed to expire coming into our Tuesday, but many still remain across the state. This may be a common occurrence during the hot and dry summer months, but these warnings still need to be taken seriously. Weather conditions will remain ideal for wildfire spread - somewhat breezy, with winds lighter than on Monday, and dry with very low dew points. As we know, rain has been scarce this summer and the lack of moisture has left most of the state facing another drought (see images below). An estimated 2+ million citizens across Utah are currently in Drought Areas.
Mostly dry air will continue across the entire state as a stalled, weakening, cold front keeps temps a bit on the "cooler" side, but high pressure continues to exit toward the east southeast. With all the talk of dry air, it's hard to imagine that a threat for a high-based thunderstorm or two is possible today over central and southern Utah, however the potential storms don't look to bring much relief when it comes to needed rainfall but in stead produce a gusty outflow. Northern Utah will be remaining near and slightly above average when it comes to temperatures whereas southern and central Utah will see temps slightly above the average. Luckily, the atmosphere will be on our side coming into Wednesday! Conditions will be favorable to help lower fire risks across the state as temps stay cooler. Don't get too excited though because a slow warming trend looks to return as we approach the weekend.
