Good news here on our Wednesday; all Red Flag Warnings have expired and we're looking at a cooler and less breezy day ahead! Not only are we rid of the escalated fire danger (for now), but we're also not facing any harsh heat threats coming into the midweek. The aforementioned cold front that played a role in yesterday's developments continues to linger overhead. This will help keep high temperatures on the "cooler" side with few clouds aiding by periodically filtering the sunshine. The steady front isn't strong by any means, but we'll take whatever relief we can get after such a brutal start to the work week! All of this being said, there are still some areas of the state, southern Utah, that could see temps popping up slightly above the average for today. The slow moving front has set up a boundary across the state, keeping central and northern Utah near average with southern Utah facing the warmest temps for the day. Along the frontal boundary, the possibility of a few isolated high-altitude storms may pop up starting off Boulder Mountain this afternoon, moving east. If storms develop we see a threat for gusty outflow winds and not much rainfall.
Thursday does bring some needed change across the state in the form of a new set of possible shower and storm activity. Starting to the south, isolated to scattered storms may begin to develop as early as the morning hours before moving northward. Activity will then be stalled by some countering, drier, flow coming in from the northwest, halting northward movement around SLC. The marching storms are expected to be a mix of both wet and dry with rainfall amounts looking to stay minimal and outflow winds creating gusty conditions. Isolated activity could last into early Friday morning.
With southern flow returning to the state coming into the end of the week, plan for temps to begin trending warmer. Temperatures around SLC will be nearing 100° on Friday.
